Strava expanded its AI integrations with Google Gemini this week, allowing subscribers to get personalized insights based on their workout history. Here are the details.
A few months ago, fitness tracking platform Strava launched an integration with Claude using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing users to analyze their workout history and training performance through natural-language conversations with Anthropic’s AI assistant.
MCP is an open standard (created by Anthropic and later donated to the Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI Foundation) that allows AI assistants to connect to external apps and services to access information and perform tasks on behalf of users.
This week, Strava announced an expansion of its AI integrations, bringing similar capabilities to Google Gemini.
As the company explained, Strava subscribers “who connect Strava directly to Gemini will get more contextual and personalized answers grounded in their activity history.” The company added that the integration is entirely optional and read-only
“Am I getting faster at the same heart rate?” See what’s different in your volume, consistency, and mix of sports, without scrolling through months of activities.
“Can you give me a detailed analysis of how I performed in my last race?” Understand how your effort played out, mile by mile.
“How is my strength training impacting my running?” Synthesize trends across any sports you do on Strava.
“What’s my fastest 10K this year vs. ” Compare your best efforts side by side, with the date and activity behind each, to see how far you’ve come and what’s still in reach.
