Report: Apple expected to ship up to 1.5 million OLED touchscreen MacBook Pros in 2027

A new report from TrendForce explores Apple’s impact on the OLED notebook market following the launch of its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, and the company’s own shipment prospects for 2027. Here are the details.

Apple yesterday announced the new touchscreen MacBook Pro, which features the same tandem OLED technology it first introduced with the M4 iPad Pro in 2024.

With two OLED layers stacked on top of each other, the technology delivers higher brightness than conventional single-layer OLED displays, while maintaining the deep blacks, high contrast ratios, and power efficiency that OLED is known for.

And while yesterday’s announcement made it official, Apple’s first touchscreen Mac has long been rumored through leaks, reports, and supply chain analyses.

In September 2025, for instance, The Elec reported that Samsung Display was preparing to begin mass production of 14-inch and 16-inch OLED panels for Apple’s MacBook Pro in the second quarter of 2026, with an estimated annual output of 2–3 million units.

Two months later, TrendForce predicted that OLED notebook market share would reach up to 12% between 2027 and 2028, partly driven by Apple’s expected adoption of the technology.

Then, earlier this year, TrendForce published an OLED roadmap predicting that Apple would introduce OLED displays to the MacBook Pro lineup in 2026, followed by the MacBook Air in 2029 (pushed back from 2027).

Now, TrendForce has published a new report with new shipment forecasts for Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro and the broader OLED notebook market.
