Apple has issued a short statement following strong initial demand for the iPhone Duo, with shipping estimates already slipping into next year. Here’s what the company said.
As soon as iPhone Duo pre-orders opened today , shipping estimates began slipping from late October into November, then December, and eventually January. In some countries, including Brazil, estimated deliveries have already been pushed into early February.
While there had been reports warning that initial iPhone Duo supplies could be limited, the speed and extent of the shipping delays still caught many by surprise.
Apple, meanwhile, is putting a positive spin on the strong initial response. In a statement shared with CNBC , the company described pre-order demand as “nothing short of extraordinary”, and added:
“We are working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible, and we will continue accepting orders online.”
With shipping dates slipping well into next year, scalpers on eBay and X are already looking to cash in, with asking prices reaching as high as $10,000.
This has led to criticism of Apple’s handling of pre-orders, with some calling on the company to identify and cancel orders placed by scalpers.
