Business News Tech AI Google opens up latest AI models to 200 European researchers
Google has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to provide 200 European researchers access to its cutting-edge AI models as part of the Resource for AI Science in Europe scheme. This access includes advanced tools like AlphaFold 3 and WeatherNext, aiming to boost scientific research capabilities. The move is designed to foster innovation in Europe's research landscape, coinciding with rising demands for stricter regulations on AI technologies.
Google announced Wednesday that it will open up its most advanced artificial intelligence models to 200 European researchers . "By delivering vital compute power and state-of-the-art tools directly to research teams, this effort aims to accelerate the pace of European innovation and reinforce the continent's scientific competitiveness," Google said in a statement released at an AI summit in Dublin. The researchers, chosen by the European Commission under its Resource for AI Science in Europe (RAISE) scheme, will get access to Google DeepMind and Google Cloud's "leading scientific tools including AlphaFold 3 , WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve, and AlphaEarth Foundations," Google said.
AlphaFold 3 specialises in research on proteins while WeatherNext specialises in meteorological forecasts. The announcement came as demands for greater regulation of AI have increased following a series of security incidents.
