SEC committee sets October 27 meeting on IPO modernization, crowdfunding

The SEC’s Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee will meet October 27 to continue IPO modernization talks and discuss crowdfunding policy.

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee said it will meet on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. to continue discussing IPO modernization and examine possible policy changes tied to regulation crowdfunding, according to the SEC notice published on October 14, 2026. The announcement extends a policy conversation that has already appeared in recent committee work this year and matters because the panel advises the SEC on capital-raising rules affecting small businesses and smaller public companies.

In the SEC’s notice, the committee said the meeting will continue its work on IPO modernization and explore potential policy issues. The committee is advisory rather than a rulemaking body, so any discussion would inform possible SEC consideration but would not itself change the rules. The SEC describes the panel as holding quarterly public meetings and says its remit covers capital raising, securities trading, public reporting and corporate governance.

The October 27 session follows earlier SEC committee activity on the same theme. m. ET, while a July 30, 2026, SEC announcement described a continuation of Small Business Advisory Committee work. Background material provided with the notice says the committee examined ways to encourage more IPOs at an April 28, 2026, meeting and that recent substantive work has included a Finders recommendation adopted on February 24, 2026, as well as Modernizing Market Access recommendations associated with the July 21 and August 6, 2026, meetings.
