PANews, September 23 — Musk reposted on X a lengthy essay by Hollywood producer and DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg about AI and the creative industry. Katzenberg said AI is rapidly transforming animation and film/TV production, noting that he had previously predicted that a new generation of AI tools could cut the production time and cost of world-class animation by up to 90% within three years. He believes AI currently excels at reasoning, evaluation, optimization and pattern recognition, but true creativity still depends on human taste, intuition, empathy and the desire to express, and there remains a distinction between AI-generated works and a human creator actively expressing an idea.
Citing the history of technological shifts such as sound films and computer animation, Katzenberg said technological progress does eliminate some old jobs, but it also expands art forms and creative space. He believes AI will not disappear, and Hollywood needs to shift from resisting AI to participating in shaping the rules for its application; at the same time, AI developers should work with creators and use their works and ideas on the basis of obtaining authorization, giving credit and providing fair compensation. Katzenberg expects that as AI further lowers the cost and barriers of film/TV production, more films and new narrative forms will emerge in the future.
