Harvey, in partnership with LexisNexis, introduces an AI-powered Motion to Dismiss workflow, streamlining the drafting of legal motions using advanced legal research tools.
Legal technology firm Harvey, in collaboration with LexisNexis, has launched a new Motion to Dismiss (MTD) workflow designed to drastically reduce the time required to draft these procedural legal motions. The announcement, made on October 7, 2026, highlights the integration of LexisNexis’s extensive legal research content and Shepard's® Citations Service within Harvey’s AI platform.
The MTD workflow builds on a strategic alliance formed in June 2025 between Harvey and LexisNexis. According to the announcement, this collaboration aims to leverage LexisNexis's legal research capabilities to create advanced workflows for litigation support. The new tool is touted as a significant time-saver, replacing the traditional 40-50+ hours of associate work required to draft a motion to dismiss with an automated process that produces a ready-to-review draft within hours.
The workflow operates through four stages: analyzing the complaint to propose dismissal arguments, lawyer review and approval of the plan, in-depth research on approved arguments using LexisNexis’s database, and automated drafting of the motion. Each stage incorporates lawyer oversight, ensuring that the tool supports legal professionals without replacing their judgment. The final output includes all necessary citations, formatted arguments, and court-specific procedural standards.
Harvey’s CEO emphasized the impact of this innovation, stating that it allows legal teams to focus more on strategic issues rather than time-intensive drafting tasks. The company also confirmed plans to roll out a Motion for Summary Judgment workflow as the next phase of the collaboration with LexisNexis.
