Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Is Finally in Your Home

One of the year’s best horror movies has finally come home, even if it’s a little too late for Halloween. Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, the hit franchise reinvention that grossed over $400 million worldwide, is now available for digital download. So you can buy or rent it right now, wherever you’d like.

Released in mid-September, the film stars Austin Abrams as a young medical courier tasked with one last job on a cold, snowy night. What he doesn’t know is that something has broken containment at a nearby lab, and he’ll have to survive the next few hours fighting all manner of disgusting creatures to not just stay alive, but deliver the package.

Cregger’s approach to the hit video game franchise, which had already spawned seven movies before his take, was to go back to basics. He wanted to put fans in the mind of a Resident Evil player. Someone slowly going through an increasingly scary and aggressive world, leveling up their weapons and items along the way. And, in that aim, he was super successful. Some hardcore fans of the franchise didn’t like that the film was so tangential to the lore of the series, but $400 million later, Cregger’s take is the highest-grossing film in the franchise, by far. So it seems like a lot of people liked it and told a friend.

To commemorate the film coming home, Fandango released the first few minutes of the movie, which you can check out below. It’s a great way to get yourself back in that manic mindset before watching Resident Evil again or for the first time.
