Ahead of its Android XR-based Aura launching later this year, XREAL is giving its flagship One Pro a “Plus” upgrade without raising the price.
XREAL 1 Pro+ delivers upgrades that, after my experience with the existing generation, are exactly what I would have picked as pain points to address.
That starts with the display itself. XREAL is nearly doubling the brightness of the display to 1,200 nits as well as introducing AI-powered HDR. While the 700-nit brightness of the older model was plenty bright in dark environments, I did find that it had trouble holding up, say, if my neighbors on a flight decided to have the window open. The 1,200 nit upgrade should go a long way there, and I’m already impressed in some brief testing at home.
The display gets dedicated “Standard,” “Movie,” and “Reading” modes, too, to tailor the display to what the user is doing. 3D conversion also now supports 60Hz, up from the previous 30Hz limit.
The biggest physical upgrade is to the nose pads, which now have a larger air cushion design that, in practice, is a major improvement in regards to wearability. XREAL One Pro often got a bit uncomfortable on my nose after a few hours, but this upgrade makes it a whole lot better.
XREAL 1 Pro+ is available starting today for $599, keeping the same price as the existing model.
