The US Justice Department announced the seizure of seven internet domains to disrupt hacking infrastructure operated by China's Integrity Technology Group, which was linked to the Flax Typhoon hacking group targeting critical infrastructure.
US officials said they were seizing seven internet domains in a fresh effort to disrupt hackers linked to Chinese IT firm Integrity Technology Group.
In a statement issued on Thursday (October 8), the Justice Department said the domains were being used by Chinese hackers to scan and hack critical infrastructure systems in the US and other countries.
The department said the move marked its second public effort to disrupt Integrity Tech’s hacking infrastructure. In September 2024, it announced the court-authorised disruption of an Integrity Tech botnet comprising more than 250,000 compromised consumer devices in the US and around the world.
At the time, then-FBI Director Christopher Wray said Integrity Tech was behind a major Chinese hacking group known as “Flax Typhoon”. He added that the group was carrying out intelligence collection and reconnaissance activities for Beijing’s security agencies.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment after business hours on Thursday. Beijing routinely denies conducting hacking operations.
