The AirFly Bluetooth transmitter lets you connect your headphones to just about any aircraft entertainment system.
These days, taking a flight has a lot of the perks you’d expect on the ground: You have Wi-Fi, coffee and charging facilities. Yet, while things are getting better in the audio department, Bluetooth is still relatively rare. The AirFly View from Twelve South is a tiny Bluetooth transmitter that lets you connect your BT headphones to any source with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. The most obvious use is to connect your noise-canceling earbuds or headphones to the seatback in-flight entertainment systems on most aircraft. Alternately, the View can receive Bluetooth so you can stream audio from your phone to any device with a 3.5mm AUX input.
The View lets you connect two pairs of headphones at the same time in case you and your travel partner (or seatmate stranger, make new friends!) want to watch the same movie or show. A clever disappearing screen makes setup easy. It has Auracast, so you can broadcast to others for your own listening party, though obviously this isn’t something you’d want or need to do on a plane.
The View is easier to use and connect than the Twelve South AirFly Pro 2 , but that convenience comes with a higher price of $80 (versus the $60 Pro 2). The View also has a lower battery life at 16 hours, but that’s still plenty for all but the longest of long hauls. The only real issue is that more and more planes do have Bluetooth at every seat, though that’s not guaranteed, regardless of what the airline claims before your flight.
