US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, October 20, thanked Tesla CEO Elon Musk for pledging to give SpaceX shares to American children, saying the proposed giveaway aligned with the goals of his administration’s Trump Accounts initiative.
A BIG THANK YOU to our legendary friend, @ElonMusk, for his incredible generosity in giving SpaceX Stock to millions of American children through TRUMP ACCOUNTS! This is exactly what was envisioned when we created TRUMP ACCOUNTS — Bringing together the GREAT PRIVATE SECTOR, Elon and so many more, to invest in our children, by far our greatest and most important asset, and give every American Child a piece of the American Dream. Thank you Elon! President DONALD J. TRUMP
In a post on X, Trump thanked Musk for his “incredible generosity” and said the move reflected his vision of bringing together private businesses to invest in American children.
Musk announced the proposed giveaway on Monday, October 19, via a post on X, saying he planned to give one SpaceX share to every American child next year. The plan could put shares in the hands of millions of young Americans, although neither Musk nor Trump outlined how the distribution would work.
Several key details remain unclear. Musk did not specify who would qualify, how the shares would be transferred or whether parents and guardians would manage them on behalf of children.
The proposed distribution could cover approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 in the US, according to figures from the US Census Bureau.
