The first iPhone Duo preorder offer has landed — how to save $1,200

TL;DR: New and existing AT&T customers can get up to $1,200 off the iPhone Duo with an eligible trade-in. Customers who switch to AT&T can also get up to $800 toward their current device balance.

Preorders for Apple’s iPhone Duo officially kick off this week, and AT&T is coming out of the gate with one of its most aggressive carrier promotions of the year.

Starting on Oct. 16, the Apple iPhone Duo will be available for preorder at AT&T before general availability opens on Oct. 23. To sweeten the launch, AT&T is offering up to $1,200 in bill credits with an eligible trade-in for both new and existing customers. If you are switching carriers, AT&T is also stacking an extra $800 credit to cover your remaining phone balance with your current provider, plus an exclusive $200 discount per line when you complete your order online.

To unlock the maximum $1,200 savings, you will need to trade in a qualifying smartphone with a minimum trade-in value of $230, activate or maintain your line on an eligible unlimited plan, and purchase the phone on a 36-month installment agreement.

23/month. You are still required to pay state sales tax on the phone's full retail value upfront, plus AT&T's standard $35 device connection fee. The $1,200 discount is distributed as 36 monthly bill credits. If you cancel your plan, downgrade to an ineligible tier, or switch carriers before the three years are up, the remaining balance becomes due immediately.
