From ShuruKar, billed as the first nationwide district-level movement of its kind that aims to help young Indians identify a problem worth solving in their district, to India’s ecommerce platforms recording around Rs 24,000 crore in sales during the first two days of festive shopping, here are the latest developments across sectors.
A big idea does not need a big city. That was the message from Patna, where The Bharat Project, an initiative by YourStory, launched ShuruKar at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Science City in Rajinder Nagar.
Developed in partnership with DPIIT and Startup India, ShuruKar is billed as the first nationwide district-level movement of its kind. It aims to help young Indians identify a problem worth solving in their district, build a business around it, and continue growing it.
The launch drew Shri Nitish Mishra, Minister, Urban Development and Housing Department, Government of Bihar, along with founders, students and young entrepreneurs from across the state.
Ecommerce firms are estimated to have sold goods worth around Rs 24,000 crore in the first two days of the festive season sale, driven by growth in order volumes, with mobile phones accounting for the biggest share in value terms, according to consultancy firm Redseer Strategy Consultants.
The consultancy firm estimated that shoppers placed about 8-9 crore orders across all platforms, including Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Ajio and many other marketplaces.
Redseer Strategy Consultants, Associate Partner, Nikhil Dalal told PTI that the first two days pointed to India's festive e-commerce basket getting wider. The growth is being led by order volumes, with consumers spreading spend beyond mobiles into fashion, electronics and appliances as well.
