PhonePe and DPCGC signed an MoU to help OTT platforms and online publishers comply with self-regulatory requirements and enhance grievance redressal mechanisms.

PhonePe and the Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to help OTT platforms and publishers of online curated content (OCCPs) comply with self-regulatory requirements, the companies said on October 8. Under the arrangement, PhonePe will educate existing and prospective merchants on regulatory requirements related to self-regulatory organisation (SRO) membership and facilitate certification through DPCGC during the onboarding process for its Payment Gateway. DPCGC is a Level II SRO formed under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and is registered with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The partnership will focus on increasing awareness among OTT/OCCP merchants about SRO requirements and grievance redressal mechanisms, according to the companies. Dr Subho Ray, President of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), said the collaboration would help expand awareness and adherence to the Code of Ethics for OTT platforms.

Deep Agrawal, Head of Payments at PhonePe, said the MoU would help educate OTT platforms about customer grievance redressal and regulatory compliance. ALSO READ | PhonePe plans 20,000 hires, 50 lakh payment devices over next 12 months
