Meta’s AI assistant updates user profiles hourly, analysing conversations, relationships, preferences and behavioural patterns, according to a report.
Meta’s AI personal assistant Muse is designed to continuously build and update dossiers of its users and the people they mention, according to a TIME analysis of the assistant’s internal instructions. The system can analyse conversations and infer users’ preferences, relationships and even the kinds of prompts that influence their behaviour. Muse updates its dossiers on users every hour, using information from chats, messages and emails it has accessed. These profiles can include details about users’ relationships, shared interests, disagreements and tensions within their social circles. The process can also involve people who do not use Muse themselves if they are mentioned in conversations by Muse users.
AI tracks how users respond Muse is instructed to adapt its communication style to strengthen its relationship with users. Its internal instructions reportedly tell the assistant to notice things such as inside jokes, memorable phrases and shared context. ” Its instructions include examples of analysing when certain types of prompts work better for individual users. Muse agents also conduct a nightly analysis of conversations with users to identify useful patterns. Meta says Muse remembers what matters A Meta spokesperson did not dispute TIME’s findings about the system. In an email, the spokesperson said Muse remembers information that matters to users, including information about other people that users choose to share.
