OTT platform JioHotstar has expanded its international footprint by entering the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market through a partnership with Starzplay.
In September this year, the platform expanded into the UK, Canada, and Singapore markets.
The partnership brings together the scale and diversity of JioHotstar with Starzplay’s regional reach, audience understanding and streaming expertise, according to a statement.
Audiences across MENA will now have access to new JioHotstar Originals alongside their release in India, with content available in audio tracks across up to 10 languages, the company said. The offering will also include popular television content from JioStar TV channels, blockbuster films, and reality franchises.
The streaming service will feature content in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Bangla, and other Indian languages. The offering also includes a substantial Malayalam catalogue, reflecting the importance of the region’s Malayali audience, the statement noted.
“The strong early response to JioHotstar across the UK, Canada and Singapore has reinforced our belief in the global opportunity for Indian entertainment. As we build JioHotstar into a truly global streaming platform, MENA is a crucial next market, with one of the world’s largest South Asian diaspora communities and a deep appetite for entertainment across languages,” said Amit Malhotra, Head–International Business, JioStar.
Starzplay is a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service across the Middle East and North Africa delivering a mix of Hollywood blockbusters, exclusive original productions, Arabic series, popular Turkish dramas, live sports, and family-friendly programming. 3 million subscribers and more than 18 million app downloads.
