iPhone Duo Repair Prices Will Fold Your Bank Account Without AppleCare

Thinking of saving a little money when buying Apple’s new foldable phone? A mishap could cost up to $1,500 in repairs.

The iPhone Duo starts at expensive and goes up to exorbitant for its higher-capacity configurations, and if something happens and you need a repair, the costs could be substantial without AppleCare coverage.

The base 256GB storage option is priced at $1,999, but if you want to max out Apple’s new foldable phone with 2TB of space, it’ll cost $3,199. That’s pricey by iPhone standards, compared to the iPhone 18 Pro that begins at $1,199, though in line with the retail prices of Android folding phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

Adding AppleCare coverage on top of the iPhone Duo’s price is an ongoing cost in addition to the price of the phone, but in terms of potential repairs, it does make sense. Because if you don’t fork out for a plan, and the inner display of your iPhone Duo gets crunched, expect to pay $999 to get it replaced, according to Apple’s support documentation. These are prices for repairs made directly by Apple, not third-party services.

The range of repairs starts at a modest $49 for “cover layer damage” and jumps all the way up to $1,499 for “other damage,” though it’s not clear what the latter entails. Here’s the breakdown:

AppleCare Plus with Theft and Loss is priced at $20 per month or $200 per year until canceled and includes “unlimited repairs for accidents like drops and spills” and theft and loss coverage for up to two claims every 12 months.
