How Can Anybody Resist This Special Edition Pokémon Beats Pill Speaker?

How do you milk out a two-year-old portable Bluetooth speaker? If you’re Beats, you partner up with Pokémon and release this special-edition Pill wireless speaker featuring Pikachu and Mimikyu.

Neither Beats or Pokémon are saying the special-edition speaker is part of the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, but come on. You’re telling me Polaroid, Fitbit, and now Beats doing special-edition Pokémon versions of their latest gadgets isn’t some kind of celebration of the franchise?

As the resident sucker for all things Pokémon and tech here at Gizmodo, this gray Beats Pill with the two pocket monsters is calling to me. It’s especially calling to me because it doesn’t cost a premium over the regular Beats Pill. It’ll cost the same $149.99 when it launches on Oct. 15 at Apple.com and Target.

Other than the Pokémon makeover, which also includes charms such as a Poké Ball, lightning bolts, and the Beats “b” logo, the Beats Pill is identical to the regular model. It’s IP67 water and dust-resistant, so it’ll work fine in the shower or at the beach, it gets up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, and it also doubles as a battery bank for charging up other devices like phones. You can also pair two Pills together for twice the volume or stereo mode for distinct left- and right-channel separation.

Even the packaging is adorable. Ugh. It’s so hard for me to resist stuff like this when companies go the extra mile with the box.
