Hot pestilence summer seems to be transitioning into recall fall. There has been a flood of food-related recalls in the U.S. in recent days, covering things like smoked salmon, cheese, gelato, chocolate, and 1.5 million pounds of meat products. The chocolate has been recalled because someone found a piece of glass in theirs.
Kayem Foods Inc. issued a nationwide recall of over 1.5 million pounds of meat on Saturday because the products experienced “temperature abuse during storage,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). That’s another way of saying they were kept at an appropriately cold temperature.
“The problem was discovered after the firm received a retail customer complaint regarding warm product temperatures at point of delivery on October 1, 2026,” according to the press release from FSIS. “The establishment investigated and determined that they stored various RTE meat and poultry products in a warehouse cooler that experienced temperature deviations.”
The recall impacts a diverse array of meat products, including hot dogs, bacon, deli meat, liverwurst, roast beef, brisket, and chicken sausage, among others. The meats were also sold under a wide variety of brand names, including Kayem, Al Fresco, Triple M, McKenzie Country Classics, and Genoa.
FSIS has a 27-page PDF on its website with photos of the products that have been impacted by the recall. There have been no reports of illnesses, but the food safety agency is concerned that these products could be in consumer refrigerators. Anyone who finds these meat products in their homes is encouraged not to consume them and either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
