Gemini app expands Google Maps Personal Intelligence, replacing Deep Think

Besides coming to Android Auto this week, Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app is also expanding its Google Maps integration.

Personal Intelligence uses your emails, docs, photos, videos, and more to customize Gemini responses without you having to be specific. Since launch, the “Search services” Connected App has allowed Gemini to access Search, Maps, Shopping, News, and Google Flights and Hotels.

The Google Maps integration is now expanding to your searches and saved places. The specific example Google touts is combining it with Calendar access to “give you tailored recommendations for your day.” “I have a list of restaurants I’ve been meaning to try. What’s the best spot for after my meetings today?” checks where your last meeting is and finds saved locations near it.

With your permission, Gemini can now reference your @GoogleMaps searches and saved places alongside your Google Calendar to give you tailored recommendations for your day. 📍

Meanwhile, following the launch of Gemini 4 Argon, Google is notifying AI Ultra subscribers that the new model will “replace Deep Think soon.” You can “Switch to Argon when you need deeper reasoning.”

At the moment, Gemini 3.1 Pro offers a “Deep Think” thinking level above High, Medium, and Low. The last update to this specialized reasoning mode was in February.

This brief in-app notice does not make it clear whether Deep Think is going away because the underlying Gemini 3.1 Pro model is being retired, or whether it’s just the mode being phased out.
