The Fellow Aiden drip coffee maker is universally beloved among the WIRED Reviews team. (Read our review here.) It, alongside other popular Fellow staples, are over 20 percent off right now at Fellow's Refurbished Gear Section.
We love the Aiden partly because of its sleek, midcentury modernist design, but above all, for how easy it is to use and how great the coffee tastes. It's approachable to use, but still has plenty of customization for coffee aficionados, including roast level, brewing temperature, bloom duration, and even local elevation. If you're like me and would rather press a button and go, you can choose the automated “Guided Brew” setting on the LED menu, pick your size (between five and 50 ounces), pop in a color-coded basket (which, as an added bonus, takes standard paper filters), and add the amount of coffee the drip coffee maker recommends. You'll get the perfect cup, brewed at 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you're a true coffee nerd, there's the Fellow phone app where you can customize your brew and build a library of recipes to refer to later. So, if you get an exceptionally good cup of drip coffee, you can easily recreate it the next morning.
But if you're like me and would rather sip iced coffee to match your frozen heart, Aiden uses hot-bloomed coffee and a Japanese-style slow-drip method to make a light-bodied, aromatic cold brew in about 90 minutes. The brew is room temperature when it's done, so we recommend making it the night before and refrigerating it for the morning—or letting it brew a little longer and serving it over plenty of ice.
