Exclusive: ElevenLabs to invest 'hundreds of millions of dollars' in India-focused AI development
ElevenLabs CEO Mati Staniszewski said the company will spend a double-digit percentage of its nearly $1 billion fundraise in India, while the company expects voice AI to reshape customer support and BPO jobs.
ElevenLabs plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in India as it expands the development and deployment of voice artificial intelligence in the country, CEO Mati Staniszewski told CNBC-TV18. Staniszewski said the company plans to spend a double-digit percentage of the amount it has raised, which is close to $1 billion, on the region. He said the investment would cover model development, local teams and work on Indian languages. The company sees India as a potential testing ground for voice AI, with Staniszewski saying use cases emerging in the country could influence adoption in other markets. He said voice could become a primary interface between people and AI, particularly in a country with multiple languages and widespread use of voice-based interactions.
ElevenLabs' latest model supports 14 Indian languages, while the company is also working with Indian businesses on customer support, sales and other applications. Conversational AI to reshape customer support and BPO work
Staniszewski said conversational AI is approaching human-level performance in some applications and could pass the Turing test in the near term. He said AI is already comparable with humans in basic level-one customer support, with broader improvements in conversational quality expected over the next six to 12 months.
