India stands at a pivotal juncture where rapid technological advancements are fundamentally reshaping businesses and critical infrastructure. The nation has aggressively pursued digital transformation over the past decade, creating a robust environment for innovation. Artificial intelligence is now emerging as the core engine driving the next phase of this economic evolution. Organisations across sectors are integrating advanced algorithms to optimise operations and accelerate growth.
However, this accelerated adoption introduces severe vulnerabilities. Cybercriminals are simultaneously weaponising these same technologies to launch sophisticated attacks against vital networks. The central challenge for modern enterprises is securing the systems powering their expansion while responding to an increasingly complex threat environment.
These pressing concerns took centre stage during a recent Defenders of Digital Bharat dialogue, a joint initiative by Fortinet and CNBC-TV18. Luca Simonelli, Senior Vice President for the Asia Pacific region at Fortinet, shared insights drawn from over three decades of experience spanning networking and cloud security. His perspective highlighted the urgent need for a proactive defense strategy in an era where digital resilience defines business success.
The scale of technological integration within the country has established a formidable base for future expansion. Simonelli emphasised the importance of this existing groundwork early in the discussion. "I think over the last couple of decades India has built a digital infrastructure at scale," he noted, adding that this creates the foundational layers for digital transformation.
Thousands of global capability centres currently operate nationwide, forming the bedrock for a massive transition encompassing digital payments, cloud connectivity, public services, and autonomous commerce.
