India’s deeptech startups raised substantially more capital in Q3 2026, even as the number of deals edged lower.
As per Inc42’s ‘Indian Tech Startup Funding Report, Q3 2026’, deeptech startups raised $290 Mn across 28 deals, compared with $105 Mn across 29 deals in Q3 2025. The 176% YoY increase outpaced the broader startup ecosystem, where funding grew 5% to $2.2 Bn.
For context, deeptech startups are the ones that develop advanced technologies and hardware and include innovations across sub-segments like spacetech, robotics, defence technology and semiconductors.
The sharp rise in funding, despite a marginal decline in deal count, points to a concentration of capital in a smaller pool of startups.
In this, large spacetech rounds accounted for a significant share of the funding deployed during the quarter, with the startups in the sector netting $130 Mn, accounting for about 45% of deeptech funding in Q3. Six-year-old spacetech startup Pixxel’s $100 Mn round was one of four mega funding rounds recorded during the quarter. The round accounted for over three-fourths of the segment’s total.
Sustaining this momentum will require capital to reach beyond a select group of companies. As per a recent report by the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA), deeptech startups continue to face a funding gap at the Series B and C stages, with few funds equipped to write the larger cheques needed to take technologies from development to commercial scale.
IVCA President Rajat Tandon said bridging this gap, deepening domestic limited partner participation, and improving exit pathways will be critical to building globally competitive deeptech companies.
