We may never get to see that Star Wars movie focused on Rey and the New Jedi Order—really, who’s to say at this point? But if the galaxy far, far away is looking for Daisy Ridley, it might have to hop in a submarine to find her. The star has joined a reimagining of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Irwin Allen’s 1960s (but set in the futuristic ’70s and ’80s) TV series based on his 1961 movie.
Allen also created Lost in Space, which got a Netflix reboot that ran for three seasons, ending in 2021.
This new take on his oceanic adventure, Deadline reports, is in the works from Legendary Television at Paramount+, with Akiva Goldsman (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) tapped to write and Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) aboard to direct.
This sounds intriguing, but wait till you read the synopsis, which stuffs in a Daisy twin, government secrets, a sci-fi submarine, mysterious symbols, and the lost city of Atlantis. It’s basically everything you love about In Search Of… (except Leonard Nimoy, though Goldsman does have those Trek ties) in one show.
“The new Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea series follows brilliant ocean scientist Lee Crane (Ridley), who is pulled into a classified government program after a catastrophic Arctic expedition claims the life of her twin sister. At the center of the program is the USS Seaview , a retro-futuristic submarine found entombed in the ice, marked with symbols from a history that shouldn’t exist, and it powers up only when Lee steps aboard.
