In the digital era, financial information is increasingly accessible. Banking apps, investment platforms, and insurance portals make it easier to track assets and monitor investments.
Yet, knowing what a family owns is not the same as knowing how to manage it. When the person responsible for the family's finances is unavailable, even temporarily, loved ones may struggle to locate accounts, understand liabilities, or determine what needs to be done next.
At TechSparks 2026 in Bengaluru, Priyanka Arora, CMO of The Plan Beyond, spoke about this gap between accumulating wealth and preparing families to manage it. People spend years building assets for their loved ones, but often leave them without the information needed to access or manage those assets.
The scale of the problem extends beyond individual households. According to a figure shared by the Finance Minister in October 2025, Rs 1.84 lakh crore in financial assets remain unclaimed in India. These assets point to a gap between wealth and the intended beneficiaries.
The issue is not simply whether financial records exist. It is whether the right people know where to find them, understand what they mean, and what to do with them.
Arora explained the problem to the audience using a simple exercise. She asked how many people knew where their parents kept their financial documents, which mutual funds they held, and how many bank accounts they had. Some participants raised their hands, but few appeared to know the details of their parents' investments.
She then asked the audience to imagine a family whose primary breadwinner takes a 30-day digital detox.
