UST projectors can create a wall-sized image from just a few inches away. Here are the best ones.
Ultra-short throw, or UST, projectors are designed to fit where other projectors can’t. Even the best projectors would have difficulty creating a huge image from as close to the wall or screen as a UST can. While marketed as an easy TV replacement, UST projectors can be tricky to set up and require a special screen. They’re also more expensive than traditional projectors for similar performance. That said, some are definitely better than others. Here’s what my head-to-head testing found.
After putting a number of models through their paces, I found the best overall ultra-short throw projector is the Xgimi Aura 2. It’s reasonably priced (for a UST) and has decent brightness and color. Yet, if you don’t mind spending a bit more, the Epson Lifestudio Grand Plus is brighter, with even more vibrant colors.
The Xgimi Aura 2 is the best ultra-short throw projector overall for its combination of price and performance. Its classy look should fit well in most rooms. A motorized cover helps keep dust off the lens. The Epson Lifestudio Grand Plus is brighter and has better color, but it is much more expensive.
While UST projectors tend to be expensive for their performance compared to traditional projectors, the Aura 2 is reasonably priced (again, for a UST) and offers a bright, colorful image. The two-tone color scheme and fabric-esque textured exterior also look great compared to other UST projectors.
