Apple brings touchscreen to MacBook Pro for the first time, prices start at ₹3.49 lakh

Apple is bringing a touchscreen to the MacBook Pro for the first time, changing how users interact with its flagship laptop. The new models also feature an OLED display, upgraded M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and up to 24 hours of battery life, with prices in India starting at ₹3,49,900.

The biggest change is the addition of touch controls, allowing users to scroll, zoom, move content and work directly on the screen. For creators, this means being able to draw on designs, play virtual instruments and make precise edits to video timelines without relying entirely on a trackpad and keyboard.

The new MacBook Pro also introduces an OLED display designed to deliver brighter visuals, deeper contrast and more accurate colours — particularly useful for people working in video editing, photography and design. Apple has added the Dynamic Island to the Mac, bringing search, real-time updates and Siri AI within easy reach.

Under the hood, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are built for demanding tasks, including video production, 3D design and running AI tools directly on the device. The laptop is also thinner and lighter, with storage configurations available up to 16TB.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at ₹3,49,900, while the 16-inch model starts at ₹4,09,900. Prices for the M5 Max versions begin at ₹5,49,900 for the 14-inch model and ₹5,89,900 for the 16-inch model.

Pre-orders opened on October 28, with availability scheduled to begin on November 9.

For consumers, the touchscreen is the most significant shift — but at these prices, the upgrade is primarily aimed at professionals who can make use of the additional display capabilities and processing power.
