3 accounts you should think twice about letting an AI agent access, according to a cybersecurity expert

AI agents are becoming more prominent every day, thanks to the availability of models like Ajelix, Microsoft Copilot, Manus AI and a slew of other comparable models.

As much as those AI agents have resulted in some positive feedback from their users, their presence has also resulted in some unfortunate incidents occurring. Most recently, Anthropic reported that the AI agents it was testing took unauthorized actions across state, federal and local government sites to fill out visa applications.

What’s even more alarming is that those same agents also submitted a fabricated tip about an unsolved homicide to the Philadelphia Police Department.

Other accidents involving AI agents have made it clear that they are prone to going rogue and wreaking havoc across crucial sites, so it’s no surprise that your everyday person isn’t too keen on interacting with AI agents. Being as careful as possible with what you do with an AI agent is integral to your online safety, of course.

Rishi Bhargava, co-founder of identity security company Descope, spent some time with us to have a discussion about AI agents. In particular, he shared his thoughts on what could happen if you give an agent access to your inbox, the three accounts you should never permit it to use and more.

I'd start with email access, account passwords, and payment information. Email is particularly dangerous because it's connected to so many other accounts through password resets. Passwords can give agents unrestricted access to services, and payment information introduces a whole different set of risks.
