WhatsApp is rolling out native message scheduling to Android beta users, matching a feature Telegram launched in 2019. For brands already stretched across time zones and API templates, it signals the end of shortcuts and the start of a long-overdue automation layer.

WhatsApp is rolling out scheduled messages for Android beta users, allowing them to schedule text messages, photos and videos for delivery even when their device is offline. The feature allows users to schedule content between 10 minutes and two weeks later.

The feature has been available on Telegram since 2019. For the seven years in between, brands managing WhatsApp customer support across time zones have relied on Apple Shortcuts, Chrome extensions, and third-party scheduling platforms to fill a gap the platform never closed.

That gap is now narrowing. The tool is currently available to a limited number of Android beta users running WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.40.7, with no iOS release confirmed yet.

Users schedule a message by tapping and holding the send button in a chat, which brings up an interface where they can choose when the message will be delivered. The feature works for both individual and group chats.

Message scheduling currently supports text, links, photos and videos, though only one image or video can be scheduled per message at this time. Scheduled messages appear in a dedicated section in the chat info screen, where users can review or delete them before delivery.
