SPECS Intelligence is Snap's first standalone AI service, available on iPhone and Mac from day one. The move positions personal context, not hardware, as the real platform play.
Snap has launched SPECS Intelligence, an anticipatory AI assistant designed to surface information before you ask for it, and crucially, it works on your iPhone and Mac whether you own a pair of $2,195 AR glasses or not.
The service, announced on 16 September 2026, is designed to work across iPhone, Mac and SPECS augmented reality glasses, representing Snap's first cross-platform AI product outside Snapchat itself.
Where Snap's existing generative AI features live inside the social app, SPECS Intelligence runs as a separate service with dedicated mobile and desktop apps. By making SPECS Intelligence available on mainstream devices before shipping its costly wearable, Snap is attempting to solve the classic hardware adoption trap: users can configure accounts, log goals and experience cross-device context on regular screens first, with the glasses becoming an optional visual accessory for an ecosystem they already use.
SPECS Intelligence builds an understanding of your goals, priorities, relationships and routines from the apps and tools you choose to connect, and is designed to anticipate when help would be useful and surface relevant information and actions at the right moment.
The examples Snap gives are productivity-focused: before a meeting the service could surface decisions that need to be made, questions to ask and information to remember, or ahead of a trip it could combine flight, hotel and restaurant reservations while identifying a work deadline that overlaps with the travel schedule.
