The platform is giving creators a straight line to other accounts and payment platforms just as competitors close those routes. The timing reveals where the leverage sits in 2026.
Bluesky launched profile links on 22 October, allowing users to highlight their website, newsletter, other social accounts, and payment platforms at the top of their profiles. The feature sits in the Edit Profile menu and appears directly below the bio, with links to payment services such as Patreon and Ko-fi automatically rendered as prominent green buttons that lead to creators' existing payment pages.
The move matters not because it is technically novel (it is not), but because of what it says about Bluesky's position and where power sits across platforms right now.
TikTok removed dedicated Instagram and YouTube link fields from the Edit Profile section in November 2025, leaving creators with only a single website field. The platform now states it "no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps," though creators can still add links that direct people to those platforms' websites.
That change forced creators onto aggregator tools like Linktree to bundle multiple destinations into one URL. App-to-app links kept users inside a walled mobile ecosystem; web links break the flow, require an extra redirect, and push audiences through a browser, not a seamless handoff.
