It's just been announced that Dune and Spider-Man star Zendaya is working on a science fiction project with Ex Machina director Alex Garland. The unnamed project will be released by A24, an entertainment company that has made a name for itself with weird and wonderful projects.
According to Variety, the plot is also secret for now, but Garland's previous science fiction works have focused on revealing the good and bad in human nature through futuristic ideas like clones, androids, and quantum computing. Last year it was confirmed that one of Garland's current projects is writing and directing an Elden Ring adaptation, also with A24.
"Sci-fi allows really, really big subject matter without having to feel embarrassed about it, and a lot of other genres, including, by the way, straight adult drama, is sometimes really embarrassed of big ideas," he said of his attraction to the genre in an interview last year.
"Sci-fi just says, 'Do whatever you want. The bigger the idea, the better. Bring it on.'"
Zendaya's upcoming movies include Dune: Part Three, set for release on December 18, the Ronnie Spector biopic Be My Baby, and she's lent her voice to the new Shrek movie.
