The Legend of Zelda has undergone some dramatic transformations over the years, with games like Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening, and Skyward Sword all returning through remakes or remasters. Meanwhile, several older Zelda games remain largely unchanged from their original releases. One such game is The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, a classic Game Boy Advance game that took the series in a particularly creative direction.
Originally released in 2004, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap follows Link as he works alongside Ezlo, a talking cap that allows him to shrink down to a fraction of his normal size. This mechanic transforms ordinary environments into entirely different places, with small objects becoming massive obstacles and previously inaccessible areas opening up for exploration. The Minish Cap has never received the kind of full remake treatment afforded to some of Nintendo's other classics, but it is getting renewed attention now.
Nintendo takes it back to 1998 for the Switch 2 remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, paying tribute to a commercial released for the N64 version.
Now, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is being remade in 3D using Unreal Engine 5, courtesy of fan developer CryZENx. Best known for spending years recreating Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine , CryZENx has turned his attention to the 2004 Game Boy Advance adventure, transforming its traditional top-down presentation into a fully 3D experience. The creator has shared footage of the project on YouTube, showcasing a drastically different interpretation of Link, Ezlo, and the game's environments.
