Xbox’s New ‘Mythic’ Achievement Features An Unlock Noise That Goes On For 15 Seconds

Xbox is beginning to roll out its previously teased new category of achievements that can only be unlocked by first unlocking all the other achievements in a game. This is basically the company’s version of Sony’s PlayStation Platinum trophies, but for some reason, someone at Xbox decided that these new “Mythic” achievements needed a really long unlock noise.

As reported by The Verge, it seems Xbox has started the process of rolling out Mythic achievements after they appeared in the Xbox app on PC following a recent update. Mythic achievements will be tracked separately from standard achievements, will not be affected by DLC achievements, and will be worth 0 Gamerscore, according to a report from TrueAchievements. To unlock these new achievements, players will have to first earn all of the base achievements in a game. Once you’ve done that, you’ll trigger a new on-screen animation and sound effect, as shared by Xbox content creator Klobrille on Twitter.

And, uh, for some reason, this new sound is nearly 15 seconds long. Take a listen:

Bleh, I don’t like that at all. It’s way too much. Thankfully, most players will rarely have to hear this unlock noise, but it still seems like too much fanfare to my ears.

These Mythic achievements are the same ones that Xbox boss Asha Sharma teased back in August , and Xbox insiders have reported seeing references to them for a few weeks now.
