Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on Dec. 18 (or Dec. 16 in the U.K.). As the date approaches, speculation is already buzzing on social media platforms like Reddit and X about which characters might not survive the Avengers' battle against the nefarious Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
With so many superheroes confirmed to star in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, it seems unlikely that everyone will make it out of Doomsday unscathed. On the other hand, there's plenty of discussion about who will put Doctor Doom down for good, because if there's one thing you can expect in a comic-book-inspired movie, it's power scaling.
We're not immune to that conversation, either. At a press junket for Apple TV's upcoming crime thriller Nocturne, Polygon asked stars Liev Schreiber (Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Zazie Beetz (Domino in Deadpool 2) if their characters could defeat Doctor Doom.
“Domino? I think she can do anything,” Beetz tells Polygon. “The luck power that I have sort of expands everything, you know? It's a little bit more flexible, so I think things fall on my side generally.”
Beetz isn’t wrong: In Deadpool 2, Domino’s luck power lets her escape some incredibly gnarly circumstances. The flip side, however, is that when something lucky happens to her, bad luck falls on someone else. If she went against Doctor Doom... well, it might be a 50/50 chance, depending on the luck of the draw.
As for Schreiber, he was certain Sabertooth’s iron will would give him a fighting chance against Doctor Doom.
