We've been closely following developments around the Magic: The Gathering Warhammer Commander decks since the rumors of a reprint run began. Now that this is confirmed, we expected the market value to dip in response, but without a solid reprint date or an MSRP for the decks, we figured the decline might slow.
That's not the case, though: the value of all four decks has taken a substantial hit in the last few days, according to TCGPlayer, but that's not stopping sellers from trying to make a quick buck by listing their decks well above current market prices. Product value versus actual selling prices is always tricky to navigate, so let's take a closer look at what is happening and the potential implications once an MSRP is confirmed.
One thing we need to note up front is that not all sellers are trying to raise the price of their Warhammer Commander decks rather than following the market trend; only a few, but it's a sad sight to see when multiple listings are available, and one is more than $100 over the current price and other listings.
Over on TCGPlayer, the market value has fallen quite dramatically for most of the decks. Here is the change in price from the start of October to this week:
Only one deck, Forces of the Imperium, has survived with less than a $50 drop in value, while Necron Dynasties took the biggest loss, over $80.
92, plus $40 shipping. The cheapest copy of Tyranid Swarm will get you back $280, but only for an opened version of the deck.
