Wait, Is Mega Man: Dual Override Just Mega Man X Now?

Mega Man: Dual Override is delivering another retro-inspired take on the classic Blue Bomber with a release slated next year. But based on his latest trailer revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live, he's cribbing heavily from his sequel series, Mega Man X.

The trailer showed Mega Man using special equipment allowing him to dash, hover, and more. Those moves are familiar for fans of the MMX series, which takes place a hundred years after the original Mega Man. The dashing especially has always set Mega Man X apart, making it a much faster action game. But it appears this new Mega Man title will bring some of that back as well. Mega Man even has some stylized glowy bits on his armor to signify the changes, though it looks more like his robotic paneling is opening up.

It's not clear from the trailer how limited these moves will be, and it's possible they'll be saved for special situations rather than serving as permanent armor upgrades like in the Mega Man X series. And we also saw some other powers that aren't part of the X series, like a rapid-charged fire that absolutely filled the screen with blasts, immediately taking down hapless robot goons.

The trailer also teased a new Robot Master for the series, Twinkle Girl. This will be just the second female robot master, after Mega Man 9's Splash Woman. We haven't yet seen the winner of the design a robot master contest . And just after the announcement, it teased Mega Man and Roll skins coming for Hugh and Diana in Pragmata--which was rumored, before release, to be a stealth Mega Man reboot.
