The MCU's Saddest Goodbye Actually Happened Before Endgame

It’s a pretty well-known fact that some of the saddest goodbyes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe happen at the end of the Infinity War saga. Thanks to several crushing main character deaths, fans were forced to bid farewell to some of their favorite heroes in Avengers: Endgame. However, the MCU’s most heartbreaking goodbye scene debuted much earlier than Tony Stark’s snap, in a scene that doesn't involve a death or even a grand sacrifice.

In a pre-Avengers: Endgame world, Earth's Mightiest Heroes were occasionally forced to part from the people they love. There was Meredith Quill's death in Guardians of the Galaxy and Quicksilver's sacrifice in Age of Ultron, but most Marvel fans agree that Endgame’s final farewells were the most heartbreaking. However, if fans take a step back, they'll find that the saddest goodbye in the MCU wasn't in Endgame, but in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when Steve Rogers visits Peggy in a retirement home. In many ways, the scene is him saying goodbye to the life he could've had, and it's devastating.

MCU movies like Civil War, Multiverse of Madness, and No Way Home all feature gruesome fights, but some stand out for being particularly brutal.

Although Steve Rogers got his happily ever after in Endgame , he has endured more than his fair share of loss. He watched his best friend, Bucky Barnes, apparently fall to his death in World War II, sacrificed his own future to prevent a catastrophic attack, and woke up decades later in a world where nearly everyone he knew was gone.
