What is it about the Apple Watch? I have worn and used dozens of smartwatches and fitness trackers over the last few years, and yet, if I want to use a smartwatch between reviewing them, it’s the Apple Watch I reach for.
Over the last month I’ve worn the Apple Watch Series 12, the latest model in the range, to try and once-and-for-all understand its allure. I think I know, but I also know it doesn’t necessarily make the Series 12 a must-buy for everyone, and the question over whether it could prompt a switch to Apple’s ecosystem is an even harder one to answer this year.
Because this is Android Authority, just a note before we begin. The Apple Watch Series 12 only connects to an Apple iPhone, so if you own an Android phone, you’ll need to look elsewhere. If you’re considering switching to an iPhone, the Apple Watch is the only smartwatch that fully interacts with iOS.
If you’ve seen or worn an Apple Watch Series 10 or Series 11 , then the Series 12 will be very familiar, as the dimensions and weight are essentially unchanged. The square-ish case design used since the very first Apple Watch remains too, and while some see this as a negative, it’s actually one of the Apple Watch’s greatest strengths. I’ve reviewed the 46mm aluminum Series 12, which starts at $449, and a smaller 42mm case size is available from $399, if you prefer.
