Steam is finally doing the one thing that completionists have spent a decade begging for: splitting multiplayer and single-player achievements.
As announced in a new blog post, the latest Steam beta has introduced achievement sets, allowing developers to separate achievements into categories such as DLC, updates, events, multiplayer, and single-player. In practice, this means that any new content or achievements won't suddenly take that 100% completion away from you.
"Games today live longer than ever, continuing to receive updates through new DLC, expansions, and seasons," the announcement reads. "But achievements added with new game content can be hard to discover and can accidentally break the completion status of players who have already finished the game."
Each achievement set has its own progress bar, and filling it completely earns you a "set complete" trophy to display on your profile. Games that support the feature, such as Dredge, also have an overall progress bar that breaks down completion by category, with blue representing the base game and purple representing DLC.
It's a huge win for completionists, and thankfully, it should mark the end of the 100 Reddit threads every month begging Steam to split DLC achievements (though I do appreciate your dedication). But there's another feature in the beta that will make 100% completion fairer than ever: archiving.
"Once archived, users who had already unlocked the achievement or set will still see it on their profile," Valve explained. "However, archived achievements won't show up on the profile pages of users who missed the unlock nor block their progress toward completing a set or game.
