Star Wars Zero Company Will Kill One Companion Even With Permadeath Off

Star Wars Zero Company is built around permadeath - the constant threat of permanently losing one of your beloved companions. The game teaches you this early on, killing one of your operators in the first mission: Aurelio the Rodian.

Naturally, many of you have been searching for ways to save Aurelio from his fate. I can't blame you; I did the same when I was playing through it for our review. But alas, there is literally no way to do it. Even if you turn off permadeath, Aurelio will still die in the intro to Star Wars Zero Company.

I'm seeing this question get asked a lot on social media, so I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Aurelio is always destined to die. It doesn't matter how you use him in the prologue - he will start out with one injury, gain another, and then get one shot in the final battle.

Now, just for a laugh, I booted it up and tried to do the opposite: guarantee that Aurelio dies before he's supposed to. In theory, this shouldn't be hard - starting from the second combat encounter, he has two injuries stacked up. Getting downed once more should do the trick. However, the devs clearly thought of this, as even on the hardest difficulty, all of the enemy shots will miss him. Even if you press him right up to the enemy, they always miss him.

I digress; the point is, Aurelio is destined to join the ranks of other video game characters who die in the prologue after teaching us gameplay mechanics.
