Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Returns For Its Final Season Early Next Year

We got a release window for the second (and final) season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy at New York Comic Con

At New York Comic Con, Paramount hosted a panel celebrating Star Trek's 60th anniversary. Before the panel moved on to a hilarious conversation between Ben Stiller and William Shatner, some of the cast and crew of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy came on stage to tease the second (and final) season and reveal when we can watch it.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 2 got a March 2027 release window, meaning it'll air about a year after the first season wrapped. A trailer for the second season hasn't been released yet, though a clip featuring one of the season's new characters was shown to the panel's attendees.

Onstage, executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, as well as several actors from the main cast, teased what we can expect from the next season. Notably, we learned Nahla's parents will appear in at least one episode. Bill Nighy will play her father, while Rosmarie DeWitt will play her mother. Holly Hunter, who portrays Nahla on Starfleet Academy, will also play Nahla's twin sister in that episode.

Variety reported earlier this year that the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be its last, so it won't have the legs of many other Star Trek shows. No one acknowledged this during the panel, but they also didn't dispute it. At the very least, the actors on stage seemed excited to get a second go-around with their characters so they could better understand them and evolve them in interesting ways.
