There are unoptimized messes, and then there's Shrek 2 - which, on PC, demands a staggering 16GB of RAM and at least an RTX 4060 or 3060 Ti card.
Considering the original game came out 22 years ago, and the fact that this is a remaster, not a remake, those are some ungodly minimum system requirements. For comparison, the "improved graphics" that Aspyr boasts about make this game more demanding than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Crimson Desert.
Even Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which came under fire for how demanding its minimum specs were as a family-friendly Lego game, has lower system requirements. If the Aspyr logo wasn't already raising red flags, this oughta do it.
Ryzen 7 7700X or Ryzen 5 7600X or Core i5-14600K or Core i7-13700K
Radeon RX 7600 or RX 6700 XT (12GB preferred) or GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 3060 Ti
Radeon RX 7800 XT or RX 9070 (12GB-16GB VRAM) or GeForce RTX 4070 or RTX 5070 (12GB VRAM)
When remasters from 2004 make the "can it run Crysis" jokes look tame, something has gone catastrophically wrong. Why exactly you need an RTX 4060 or 3060 Ti minimum, and 16GB of RAM, for a Shrek game is beyond me - the graphics aren't remotely enough of a jump from the original to justify it.
One theory making the rounds right now to explain the system requirements is that Aspyr has vibecoded the remaster.
