Sensor Tower data shows the yawning gap between GTA 6 and everything else

In terms of preorder numbers, Rockstar's game is 148% head of 2022's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at this point from launch

An analysis from Sensor Tower shows just how far ahead GTA 6 is in terms of preorders when compared with some of the biggest AAA games of the past six years.

The analytics firm collected preorder data for recent huge hits such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Diablo 4 (2023), Hogwarts Legacy (2023), and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (2023), then compared them with the preorder trajectory for GTA 6.

Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most successful games of recent years: preorder numbers for the shooter were more than double the number for Diablo 4 at 45 days from launch, and Modern Warfare 2 had the biggest opening weekend for Call of Duty at $800 million (Black Ops 6 would later become the biggest launch in Call of Duty's history in 2024, but it was also the first CoD title to launch day and date on Game Pass).

Currently, in terms of preorder numbers, GTA 6 is 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at this point from launch.

However, it's worth noting that this analysis does not cover boxed releases: Sensor Tower's comparison data only covers digital preorders in the United States.

08 million times, which equates to an estimated revenue of $594 million. Sensor Tower says 74% of preorders have been on PlayStation and 26% on Xbox, and the vast majority of preorders have been for the $100 ultimate edition of GTA 6.
