Rockstar Games Issues New Official Statement on GTA 6's Open World

GTA 6 is less than a month away, and Rockstar Games has made some enormous promises about what players can expect from its return to Vice City. The upcoming open-world game is larger than GTA 5, but it's not just the size of the open world. Rockstar believes the company has taken a giant step forward in making a world feel lived-in, but also making the story work hand-in-hand with the open world (which conflicts in a lot of games).

Of course, one of the defining features of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 is the freedom to ignore the main story and simply explore. Rockstar's worlds have always encouraged experimentation and exploration, and GTA 6 is no different. GTA 6 is building on that philosophy, although its two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, introduce another layer to the experience. Instead of simply moving through Leonida alone, players can spend time with their partner and potentially discover opportunities they wouldn't have encountered otherwise.

Rockstar reveals how one of Grand Theft Auto 6's returning gameplay features was iterated.

Speaking with IGN, Rockstar's Rob Nelson described GTA 6 as a significant improvement in open-world gameplay, world size, population density, and NPC interactions, suggesting that the difference becomes obvious once players begin exploring Vice City. Nelson specifically highlighted the number of vehicles and pedestrians populating the world, along with the ways those characters respond to players:

"It is definitely a step forward in all respects for us: the size of the world and how deep it feels.
