Remix launches platform for anyone to build their own game on desktop, web or mobile

Remix, the game-making platform used by about 1.5 million players and creators, launched its desktop app today for Windows, Mac and Linux.

And it’s offering a grand prize of one Bitcoin (or cash equivalent) as part of a skill-based scavenger hunt. Registration is opening today for that.

Creators can now build games on the new desktop app, on the Remix website or in the native iOS and Android apps. Anyone can turn a game idea into a full game that can be played in minutes, with no coding experience required.

Remix began on mobile in 2025, where creators have made approximately 100,000 short games. A creator describes the game they want, and Remix’s AI tools write code that instantly brings the creator’s vision to life. Remix then hosts the game and adds leaderboards, achievements and real-time multiplayer. Creators own what they make, so they can export their code and take a game anywhere they like to monetize it. Remix also creates promotional materials that creators can share to promote their games and find players.

The desktop app now gives creators room for bigger ideas alongside the web and mobile apps:
longer adventures, deeper puzzles and worlds built for groups of friends.

“For a long time, making a game felt like something you could only do if you worked at a big studio,” said Charlie Blackstock, CEO of Remix, in a statement. “We wanted to change who gets to make games. Some of the most creative builders on Remix are kids who have never written a line of code, playing next to developers with years of experience.
