The Pokemon Company has announced end-of-service plans for Pokemon Unite. The MOBA, which launched in 2021, will be shuttered and its servers taken offline in 2027, rendering the game entirely unplayable outside of a library feature that players will be able to use to look back on their records.
The Pokemon Company published an update this morning announcing the news that, on March 23, 2027, support for Pokemon Unite will come to an end. This applies to both the mobile and Switch versions of the multiplayer-only game. The game will remain playable, functional, and supported until that date.
As with any game that goes through this process, there will be stages to Unite's shutdown. The first stage is removing the ability to buy its in-game currency, Aeos Gems. That has happened effective immediately, as selling currency for a game that is closing down wouldn't be a good look.
Even though you can no longer buy Aeos Gems, if you have any leftover, those can still be used from now until the end of service next year. The same applies to anyone who has an active Unite Club membership. You can no longer subscribe to Unite Club, but those already signed up will continue to benefit from it for the remainder of their subscription, or until the game is shut down. Auto-renewal has also been switched off.
There will be one more in-game event held, seemingly so that players can say goodbye to the game. The event will begin on November 12 and run through until Unite's closure.
