Podcast: Landfall's Rebecca Lautner on Peak's 23 million sales and looking past friendslop

Plus why Landfall works on games for just one month before deciding whether to drop them

A new episode of the still-somewhat-irregular GamesIndustry.biz podcast features a fireside chat with Rebecca Lautner, CBO at Landfall Games, recorded at Game Republic New Horizons. In conversation with features editor Lewis Packwood, Lautner says that even though Peak has now sold more than 23 million units, the developer is keen to move on to something else.

"From a business point of view, believe me, it's very frustrating sometimes because there's so much opportunity in there," she says. "But that's just not what we're about. And I learned to accept that really, really early on when I joined the team. I was like, okay, we have a very different path that we want to go, and it's fun."

Lautner also discusses the launch of publishing arm Evil Landfall, which backed this year's multi-million-selling smash hit How to Fish, but says the company is also looking to invest in a range of games beyond friendslop titles.

She also talks about Landfall's "fail fast" policy – where games are dropped after one month of development if they're not coming together – as well as Landfall's development house in Stockholm (which has its own chef and bar) and why there was no April Fools game this year.
